The Alwin-Walther-Medal of the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUD) is being awarded since 1997 for outstanding performance as well as remarkable research and developement in the areas of informatics and mathematics.

In 1928 the TUD hired Alwin Walther, an highly qualified researcher and dedicated teacher of applied mathematics. His work was focused on the benefit of mathematic applications in nature, engineering and economic science.
He became one of the pioneers in electronic computing.
