RTG International Guest: Professor Paul Schwartz, UC Berkeley School of Law

As part of our continuous efforts to attract international guests and offer our doctoral candidates an opportunity to learn from the best, RTG PI Prof. Dr. Spiecker gennant Döhmann invited Professor Paul Schwartz to give a lecture at the Goethe University in Frankfurt. This invited talk, whose title was “Data privacy and TikTok”, took place on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 12 pm.

Professor Paul Schwartz is an expert in information privacy law. He is a Jefferson E. Peyser Professor at the UC Berkeley School of Law and a director of the Berkeley Center for Law and Technology. His research work focuses on how the law has sought to regulate and shape information technology – as well as the impact of information technology on law and democracy.

Professor Schwartz has received numerous awards and fellowships from different foundations, including the American Academy in Berlin, the German Marshall Fund in Brussels, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and the Fulbright Foundation. He is fluent in German.

The lecture was very well visited with many questions from the audience, which only goes to show how important these events are.
