Cryptanalysis and Side Channel Attacks
Symmetric primitives, such as block and stream ciphers, and hash functions are important building blocks in many IT-security solutions. Therefore it is important to assess strengths and weaknesses of these primitives on one hand. Cryptanalysis deals with assessing security of symmetric encryption algorithms and hash function design. On the other hand, side channel analysis takes in consideration what additional information may be obtained from a concrete implementation of a cipher that can help an attacker to find weaknesses, which would not exist if one considered only the cipher's description alone.
