Computer Science at the TU Darmstadt

Computer Science is the modern form of problem solving and the field where new ideas are developed and implemented. In research and development, information technology becomes increasingly important. For instance, in automotive and mechanical engineering, in finance, in medical and bioengineering, hence in almost all areas of life, IT plays an important role.

The Computer Science programmes at the TU Darmstadt are research-oriented and open doors for their graduates to exciting professional positions in fields of research, development, consulting and management. Next to the basic degrees, which are the Bachelor of Science and the Master of Science, the Department offers five specialized degree programmes, namely Autonomous Systems, Distributed Software Systems, Internet- and Web-based Systems, IT-Security, and Visual Computing.

Computer Science students can choose courses from the following six major fields of study which are also the Department’s profile topics, whereby the courses' emphasis lies on theoretical and technical, as well as practical aspects of these fields:

  • IT Security
  • Computer Networks and Distributed Systems
  • Robotics, Computational and Computer Engineering
  • Software Systems and Formal Methods
  • Visual & Interactive Computing
  • Web, Knowledge and Information Processing

Additionally, the Department of Computer Science offers study programmes in collaboration with the Departments of Law and Economics, History and Social Sciences, Humanities, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. The Department of Computer Science is also involved in the Computational Engineering degree programme.
