Evolution in technology sometimes comes with unforeseen consequences ranging from unwanted side effects to systematic manipulation and abuse of users. One of our areas of interest is investigating potential levers of emerging technologies like XR and artificial intelligence that allow for manipulation, deception, and abuse of users and stakeholders. Additionally, we investigate manipulative techniques for interaction and information presentation to inform better and more transparent system design.
