Two Best Paper Awards at DAMON @ SIGMOD'2026

Best Paper Award for “Do GPUs Really Need New Tabular File Formats?” and “ScaleEvict: Altruistic Eviction for RDMA-Enabled Distributed Storage Engines”

2026/06/01

Exciting news from DaMoN @ SIGMOD 2026: our group received two workshop Best Paper Awards!

Best Short Paper – Do GPUs Really Need New Tabular File Formats?

Jigao Luo, Qi Chen, Carsten Binnig

The paper challenges the common assumption that GPUs require entirely new file formats. We show that much of the performance gap comes from CPU-oriented Parquet configurations and that GPU-aware configurations can push Parquet scan bandwidth up to 125 GB/s, without changing the Parquet specification.

Best Full Paper – ScaleEvict: Altruistic Eviction for RDMA-Enabled Distributed Storage Engines

Till Steinert, Muhammad El-Hindi, Tobias Ziegler, Viktor Leis, Carsten Binnig

ScaleEvict introduces a scalable altruistic eviction strategy for RDMA-enabled distributed storage engines. By combining efficient local eviction with lightweight global coordination, it improves throughput by up to 2× and reduces tail latency by up to 3×.

Congratulations to all authors and collaborators!
