The Telecooperation group researches on such things as ubiquitous computing or smart environments, i.e. technologies to make people's lifes simpler in an unobtrusive way. Obviously, this also includes making our own life simpler. On the pages following you will find the motivation, why we created a coffee machine that automatically starts making coffee once a user puts a cup underneath it, and how we did that. We will show that besides being a nice gimmick this behaviour makes even more sense with additional services. One thing we can do is to identify the owner of a cup using an RFID tag attached to it. We use this information to give the user the coffee she prefers, and also to automatically debit the coffee from her account. Further we demonstrate, how the machine can guide a user through complex tasks like maintanace jobs.
