TK successfully completes the research project DRUP supported by the Federal State of Hesse

The Telecooperation Lab (TK) and the Process Analytics Factory GmbH (PAF) have successfully completed the research and innovation project DRUP (Deep Reasoning for automatic problem identification in unknown processes). With the development of AI technologies for better business processes, the project promises to be a key to success for the digital workplace and the digital transformation.

The aim of the project was to use artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to better understand and subsequently improve the process structures of unknown operational data. The performance of operational business processes is automatically analyzed and evaluated. Deviations from planned procedures in business processes, such as compliance violations or inefficiencies, are automatically detected and presented to the user in a clear manner.

What is special about this is that the technology improves decision-making processes without having to rely on knowledge of business processes. This results in an easy-to-use analytical technique that has positive effects on employee productivity and job satisfaction. The result will be a business-focused technology for more teamwork and AI-based productivity in the workplace.

“Once again the PAF demonstrates its innovation leadership in the process mining market.“ says Tobias Rother, CEO & Founder of PAF. ”This research project creates completely new possibilities for integrating Artificial Process Intelligence into key operational core processes and applications. Not only do companies save time and money on implementation, they also accelerate their optimization projects.”

Prof. Dr. Max Mühlhäuser from Telecooperation Lab at Technische Universität Darmstadt adds:

“We are excited about the results of our joint project with PAF, maybe the brightest SME star in the German business process mining sky. In our joint project, we were able to continue outstanding research results —at the forefront of AI for process mining— with tangible, readily usable results for the industry. This combination is always the aim of joint academia-SME projects, but it is hardly ever achieved. The success of the DRUP team deserves my highest respect and admiration.”

The joint project, funded in the 6-digit range, took place under the direction of the Process Analytics Factory GmbH, together with the Technical University Darmstadt, as well as other practice partners in the period from February 2017 to end of July 2018. Part of the funding was provided by the LOEWE – Landes-Offensive zur Entwicklung wissenschaftlich-ökonomischer Exzellenz (Federal State Offensive for the development of scientific and economic excellence).
