For his outstanding scientific contributions to computer science, Prof. Dr. Max Mühlhäuser, head of the Telecooperation Lab, was named Distinguished Member by The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Requirements for nomination include at least 15 years of professional experience in computer science and a significant impact of the respective research in the field of computer science or information technology. Distinguished Members are expected to act as mentors and role models and to make outstanding contributions to their fields of research.

According to its own statement, the ACM is the world's largest professional society for teaching and research in computer science. It brings together educators, researchers, and individuals from industry with the goal of fostering dialogue, sharing knowledge and resources, and addressing challenges in the field. In addition, ACM supports the career paths of its members, including opportunities for continuing education and networking. The ACM's Distinguished Member program was launched in 2006.

In 2021, the award was presented to 63 ACM-Members from around the world.
