Paper by CRISP researchers from TK Lab accepted at eCrime 2019

The paper “Analyzing the Threat of Blockchain-based Botnets” by CRISP researchers from the Telecooperation Lab [1] has been accepted at eCrime 2019 – Symposion on Electronic Crime Research. The paper discusses existing approaches of using public blockchains for malware command and control. Moreover, the approaches are generalized and their common limitations are highlighted. Most notably, the paper concludes that blockchains lack a cost-effective back-channel and are therefore best used in combination with an alternative communication channel.

The fourteenth Symposium on Electronic Crime Research (eCrime 2019) will be held November 13th-15th, 2019 on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. https://apwg.org/apwg-events/ecrime2019/cfp
