Associate Research Scientist in Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing
The Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab at the Department of Computer Science, Technische Universität (TU) Darmstadt, Germany has several openings for an
Associate Research Scientist (PostDoc- or PhD-level; for an initial term of two to three years, depending on the project)
We are looking to strengthen the lab’s profile in several areas of Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). Potential topics include but are not limited to (i) representation learning and commonsense reasoning, and (ii) ML and NLP for clinical psychology and psychiatry. The latter is a new research focus of the lab, for which we are currently building a team closely interacting with experts from psychology and psychiatry. We work with text and increasingly with multimodal content. Along with research results, we continuously release novel datasets and scalable NLP frameworks widely used in the community, such as S-BERT or AdapterHub.
We are looking for outstanding PhD and postdoc candidates with a strong profile in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing or Text Mining. Prior experience with relevant areas of NLP and Machine Learning and strong engineering skills are a plus. We highly appreciate demonstrable engagement in open-source projects, communication skills in English and the ability to effectively cooperate with scientists of various interdisciplinary backgrounds.
The research group comprises over thirty team members working on cutting-edge NLP and Machine Learning. Their novel applications extend to mining scientific literature and social media, applied cybersecurity, or AI for the Social Good in general. UKP Lab provides a highly agile, diverse and supportive research environment with a wide cooperation network of both leading academic and industrial partners. The Department of Computer Science of the TU Darmstadt is regularly ranked among the top ones in Germany.
