Associate Research Scientist in Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing, UKP Lab Darmstadt

The Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab at the Department of Computer Science, Technische Universität (TU) Darmstadt, Germany has several openings for an

Associate Research Scientist (PostDoc- or PhD-level; for an initial term of two to three years, depending on the project)

We are looking to strengthen the lab’s profile in several areas of Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). Potential topics include but are not limited to:

  • Conversational AI
  • Cross-Document Understanding
  • Multimodal Representation Learning

The latter is an emerging research focus in the lab, for which we are building a new team closely collaborating with other NLP, AI and machine learning groups in Darmstadt and other top institutions. We work with text and increasingly with multimodal content. We continuously release novel datasets and NLP software widely used in the community, such as S-BERT or AdapterHub.

We are looking for outstanding PhD and postdoc candidates with a strong profile in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing or Text Mining. Prior experience with relevant areas of NLP and Machine Learning and strong engineering skills are a plus. We highly appreciate demonstrable engagement in open-source projects, communication skills in English and the ability to effectively cooperate in interdisciplinary settings.

The research group comprises over thirty team members working on cutting-edge NLP and Machine Learning. Their novel applications extend to mining scientific literature and social media, applied cybersecurity, or AI for the Social Good in general. UKP Lab provides a highly agile, diverse and supportive research environment with a wide cooperation network of both leading academic and industrial partners.
