The Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab at the Technical University of Darmstadt, led by Prof. Iryna Gurevych, is hiring a Postdoctoral Researcher in AI/ML with a focus on Natural Language Processing.
The position is anchored in the ERC Advanced Grant InterText, whose vision is to advance the next generation of language technology built on the rich network of relationships between multimodal documents — moving beyond document-level AI/NLP toward models that read, reason, and act across collections of evidence.
What you'll work on
You will develop an original research program within the InterText research agenda. We are especially keen to strengthen the following directions at the core of the project:
- Multi-document reasoning and long-context modeling with LLMs — long-context architectures, retrieval-augmented generation, evidence aggregation, cross-document inference, and faithful grounding.
- High-impact real-world applications, in particular:
- AI for Science — scientific literature understanding, claim verification against evidence, hypothesis generation, and assistive tools for researchers.
- Misinformation detection — automated fact-checking, claim decomposition, source assessment, and intertextual evidence retrieval.
- Human-centric and agentic approaches as a complementary focus — LLM agents, tool use, multi-agent collaboration, interactive and mixed-initiative systems, and human–AI alignment for knowledge work.
Bottom-up proposals that articulate a clear connection to the InterText vision are also welcome.
The role includes academic service: co-advising Master's and PhD students, and contributing to NLP courses.
Your profile
- PhD (completed or near completion) in Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- A convincing research track record, evidenced by publications at top-tier ML/NLP venues.
- High motivation and intellectual independence to lead an original research line.
- Fluency in English (the working language of the lab).
