GRIS conducts research into Digital Libraries for more than one decade. With early projects such as PROBADO or VisInfo, GRIS and collaborating partners proved that non-textual documents such as audio, architectural plans, and time-oriented research data can also be facilitated with digital library support.

Digital Libraries transfer the concept of traditional libraries into the digital world. Digital documents of virtually any type are not subject to library support, facilitated with digital libraries. To achieve this, modern Digital Library Systems employ technologies such as Database Management, Information Retrieval, Visual Search and Analysis, User-Centered Design, as well as Machine Learning.
With the emerging area of the “Digitalization”, Digital Libraries may even play a more important rule than in the past.
