Thesis Projects

We are offering Bachelor's and Master's thesis supervision for TU Darmstadt students enrolled in a degree in computer science or a related field.

Before applying using our Online Application Form (only accessible for TU Darmstadt students), please check our Recommended Background, Expectations, and application Process below.

You can find out whether there is a research topic aligned with your interests by looking at our Research Areas , or by taking part in one of our offered Courses.

We are offering a new Multimodal Artificial Intelligence Project Lab this winter semester 2024/25.

Recommended Background

Most of our topics require a solid understanding of machine learning, deep learning, and/or multimodal learning. Therefore, we highly recommend that you have attended relevant lectures on machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, or multimodal learning prior to applying.

The following points are a plus:

  • successful attendance of our Courses
  • solid programming skills
  • experience with deep learning frameworks, e.g. PyTorch or Tensorflow
  • solid understanding of probability and statistics

Expectations

We expect students to be highly self-motivated and deeply interested in the topics they would like to work on with their thesis. They should be able to work independently and have a rough idea of what they would like to work on before they apply.

Process

Here is an outline of the process:

  • Start: you are interested in the topics of our lab and would like to do your thesis project with us!
  • You should take some time to learn more about the field of Multimodal AI to come up with a rough direction for your project.
  • You fill out our Online Application Form (only accessible for TU Darmstadt students)
  • We get back to you with information on whether we align well and have the resources to supervise your thesis.
  • If so, we invite you to a meeting where we present our research projects, listen to your ideas, jointly come up with an initial thesis topic, and match you with a supervisor (one of our PhD students).
  • If you are happy to proceed, you (together with your supervisor) develop a short research proposal for your thesis, in which you outline and motivate the thesis topic, define the problems that you want to address, describe your tentative approach, and include considerations regarding the timeline and feasibility of your project. This will help you get off to a good start, clarify expectations and the next steps.
  • You submit your research proposal and wait for the Prof's to approve it.
  • Once it is approved, you can officially start to work on your thesis project!
