Professor Mira Mezini, Head of the Research Group Software Engineering, has been appointed as an ACM Fellow at the Department of Computer Science at TU Darmstadt.

With this award, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) recognises the best of its more than 100,000 members worldwide for outstanding contributions to computer science. Only one percent of ACM members are named ACM Fellows.

ACM is the world's oldest and largest professional computing society. It promotes the development of new technologies, organises international conferences and presents prestigious awards. Election to the rank of ACM Fellow is considered one of the highest honours in computer science and reflects the influence and scope of the individual's research group.

Mezini's research focuses on programming languages and software engineering, with a particular emphasis on the development of intelligent software systems. She was one of the first scientists to use machine learning to automatically complete programming code, opening up new avenues in software development.

Mezini has received several awards for her scientific achievements, including an ERC Advanced Grant and prizes from IBM, Google and the Horst Görtz Foundation. She has been a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) since 2016, and a member of the Academia Europaea since 2024.

In addition to her research, Mezini shapes the scientific landscape through numerous leadership roles. She is co-director of the Hessian Centre for Artificial Intelligence (hessian.AI) and a board member of the National Research Centre for Applied Cybersecurity ATHENE.
