At GRIS we use and teach user-centered design in the context of visual computing to show how user-centered design can help to create visualization and visual analytics technologies that optimally benefit the human user.

User-Centered Design explained

User-Centered Design (UCD) is a concept that places the user in the center of all design and development processes when creating technologies. While UCD is a general concept that can be applied to hardware product development or architecture, in visual computing the perceptual and cognitive aspects of users, their tasks, and the data they want to visualize, play a major role. UCD involves aspects like task and requirements analysis, rapid prototyping, and evaluation, which in general plays a major role in visualization.
