Alina Stöver Ianus Prize

Dr. Alina Stöver received the IANUS Prize 2023 for her dissertation “Investigating the contribution of website operators to the emergence and resolution of privacy risks”, supervised by Prof. Dr. Joachim Vogt, TU Darmstadt and co-supervisor Prof. Dr. Karola Marky, Ruhr University Bochum. The dissertation examines the perspective of website operators with regard to the emergence and management of privacy risks and considers the human factor in the context of digital privacy. The insights gained help to better understand the hitherto little-researched group of website operators. This understanding forms a basis for the development of targeted measures to support website operators, thereby relieving both them and the users. Alina Stöver's interdisciplinary research approach shows how technical and social aspects are closely linked and how they can be used synergistically to promote digital security and privacy. Alina Stöver completed her doctoral study as a member of the DFG funded Research Training Group “Privacy and Trust for Mobile Users”.

The award ceremony took place as part of the 3rd Interdisciplinary Conference for Technical Peace Research “Science – Peace – Security '23” (20 – 22.9.2023 in Darmstadt).

IANUS stands for scientific-technical peace and conflict research at the Technical University of Darmstadt; often interdisciplinary, including the social sciences and humanities. The IANUS Prize (1750€) honors outstanding qualification work from all disciplines at TU Darmstadt.

Numerous very good submissions from various departments and subject areas at TU Darmstadt made it to the final selection for the IANUS Prize 2023. For all submitted papers, the quality of the work as well as the reference to the IANUS competition was evaluated by all three members of the selection committee, Prof. em. Dr. Alfred Nordmann (Philosophy of Technosciences), Prof. Dr. Markus Lederer (International Politics) and Prof. Dr. Dr. Christian Reuter (Science and Technology for Peace and Security). IANUS Prize will also be awarded in 2024. Nominations will be accepted until 31.7.2024 at ianus-preis@peasec.de.
