Professor Gurevych is a new member of the Leopoldina
One of the highest scientific honors

The Presidium of the Leopoldina has appointed TU Computer Science Professor Dr. Iryna Gurevych as a member of the National Academy of Sciences. The appointment is considered one of the highest scientific honors that can be achieved in Germany.
Iryna Gurevych is the first LOEWE “Spitzenprofessorin” of the state of Hesse, a founding member of the Hessian Center for Artificial Intelligence (hessian.AI) and founder and head of the Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing Lab at TU Darmstadt. She is also Principal Investigator of several research networks, including the ATHENE Center.
The Leopoldina was founded in 1652 and is the oldest academy of science in the world to have existed without interruption. In 2008, it was declared the National Academy of Sciences in Germany. The Leopoldina advises politicians and the public on scientific issues, sets up commissions and represents the German scientific community in international bodies. Past members of the academy include such well-known personalities as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Alexander von Humboldt, Charles Darwin, Marie Curie and Werner Heisenberg.
In addition to Iryna Gurevych, other Leopoldina members at TU Darmstadt include materials scientist Professor Anke Weidenkaff, retired Computer Science Professor Johannes Buchmann, and retired Physics Professor Achim Richter.
