Associate Research Scientists (PostDoc- or PhD-level) in AI and Natural Language Processing, UKP Lab Darmstadt, Germany, and INSAIT in Sofia, Bulgaria

The Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab in Darmstadt, Germany, led by Iryna Gurevych and the recently founded Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) in Sofia, Bulgaria have several job openings:

Associate Research Scientists (PostDoc- or PhD-level) in AI and NLP

The initial contract will be for 2-3 years depending on the project with a possibility for an extension.

We are looking for outstanding PhD and postdoc candidates with a strong profile in Natural Language Processing, Large Language Models, AI and related areas of science. Prior experience with relevant areas of NLP and Machine Learning and strong engineering skills are a plus. We highly appreciate demonstrable engagement in open-source projects, communication skills in English and the ability to effectively cooperate with scientists of various interdisciplinary backgrounds.

UKP lab offers a premier scientific environment, such as the European Network of Excellence ELLIS, the National Center for Applied Cybersecurity ATHENE, the Hessian Center for Artificial Intelligence hessen.AI and numerous high-profile international and national collaborations including industry.

INSAIT was established in April 2022, in partnership with Switzerland’s ETH Zurich and EPFL, two of the world’s best technical universities, and is closely advised by top academics from some of the most elite U.S., European, and Israeli universities and research labs. Its mission is to become a high-profile computer science and AI research institution. Recently it has become an ELLIS unit.

In Natural Language Processing, the UKP Lab and INSAIT are working to establish a strategic cooperation. Both institutes are committed to cutting-edge research on AI and NLP including language representation learning, Large Language Models, machine learning, argument mining, question answering and conversational AI. They intend to publish in top-tier venues, promote cooperative work style and close interaction of all team members. In addition, Iryna Gurevych is an Adjunct Professor in the NLP Department at MBZUAI and has an excellent network of international collaborators. LOCATION

The positions at UKP lab assumes that you can move to Darmstadt or a nearby German location. Darmstadt is very close to the Frankfurt airport and provides an excellent living environment for incoming staff members. INSAIT is located in the heart of Sofia in Bulgaria and supports with finding a suitable and comfortable housing.
