How to identify texts, generated by AI?

The Science Media Center Germany is a journalistic, independent and non-profit institution that provides journalists with facts and expertise on scientific publications. Our colleagues Iryna Gurevych and Ji-Ung Lee were asked by them to comment on whether a model sucessfully detects if scientific texts were created by AI. The resulting press release can be found here and was picked up by several German media, including the Deutsches Ärzteblatt, one of the official publications of the German Medical Association (GMA).
