UKP/AIPHES is among three top teams worldwide in the Fake News Detection Challenge

English: A team of UKP/AIPHES researchers successfully participated in a competition to fight the spread of fake news

The UKP/AIPHES researchers Andreas Hanselowski, Avinesh PVS, Debanjan Chaudhuri, and the master students Benjamin Schiller and Felix Caspelherr took part in the Fake News Challenge stage one. The competition is inspired by the Netflix Prize and the goal is to foster the development of AI technology to help solve the fake news problem. In the first stage of the Fake News Challenge, the teams were given a fake news-related task and had to develop systems for the solution. To train their systems training data was provided. At the end of the competition, the performance of the developed systems has been evaluated on an unseen set of test data. In total, 50 teams across the world participated in the challenge. The first place was secured by Cisco Cyber Security Division Talos Intelligence from Washington DC closely followed by the UKP/AIPHES team and a group of researchers from University College London (UCL) which came in second and third respectively.

Die UKP/AIPHES Mitarbeiter Andreas Hanselowski, Avinesh PVS, Debanjan Chaudhuri und die Master Studenten Benjamin Schiller und Felix Caspelherr haben an der Fake News Challenge Teil Eins teilgenommen. Der Wettbewerb ist vom Netflix Prize inspiriert und hat zum Ziel, die Entwicklung von KI-Techologien zur Lösung des Fake-News Problems zu fördern. Im ersten Teil des Wettbewerbs galt es eine konkrete Problemstellung zu lösen, welche zur Fake-News Erkennung relevant ist. Um Systeme während der Entwicklungsphase trainieren und testen zu können, wurden entsprechende Datensätze zur Verfügung gestellt. Am Ende des Wettbewerbs wurden die entwickelten Systeme anhand eines neuen Datensets evaluiert, welches während der Entwicklungsphase nicht einsehbar war. Die Aufgabestellung wurde von 50 Teams aus der ganzen Welt bearbeitet. Der erste Platz ging an Cisco Cyber Security Division Talos Intelligence in Washington DC, eng gefolgt vom zweitplatzierten UKP/AIPHES Team und einer Gruppe von Forschern vom University College London (UCL), die sich den dritten Platz sichern konnten.
