DFG funds an interdisciplinary Research Training Group (DFG Graduiertenkolleg) “Adaptive Information Processing from Heterogeneous Sources” in a cooperation of TU Darmstadt and Heidelberg University

The German Research Foundation will fund a new interdisciplinary research training group “Adaptive Information Processing from Heterogeneous Sources”.

This research training group will be jointly run by the research groups from Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Algorithmics and Multimedia Communications from the Computer Science Department at the Technische Universität Darmstadt, the Institute of Computational Linguistics at Heidelberg University, and the Natural Language Processing group at HITS GmbH.

The research training group is designed to educate 11 doctoral researchers funded by the program, 13 associated doctoral researchers and 4 associated PostDocs with a unique set of competencies. They will conduct cutting-edge interdisciplinary research at the intersection of Computational Linguistics, Language Technology, Machine Learning and Algorithmics, and Information Management. In the first funding phase 11 research themes are centered on the topic of multi-document summarization from heterogeneous information sources. The research training group will involve cooperation partners specialized in online journalism as an emerging application area of writing assistance.

The new DFG research training group will offer young researchers an inspiring research environment in a large team of highly qualified senior and junior researchers, an excellent scientific educational program with outstanding international cooperation partners, accompanied with a wide spectrum of training measures for career development.

The first phase of the program will start in spring 2015. It will run over 4.5 years with a budget of approx. 4 Million Euros with an option for extension.
