2012/11/27

On 30 November Dr. Alexander Fraser of the University of Stuttgart will give an invited talk at the UKP Lab at the Technische Universität Darmstadt.

The talk, titled “Modeling Morphology and Syntax for Statistical Machine Translation”, describes recent work on both analysis and generation of German which helps us to achieve state of the art translation performance. Dr. Fraser will discuss work on improving disambiguation of German syntax with bitext parsing technology, morphological generation, and modeling verbal inflection and clausal structure in translation.

Alexander Fraser is the leader of the Statistical Machine Translation group at the Institute for Natural Language Processing (IMS) at the University of Stuttgart. He is the PI of a project which is on modeling morphosyntactic phenomena in statistical approaches to machine translation. His main research interests are in statistical and hybrid approaches to machine translation, information retrieval and syntactic parsing.
