CAST/GI Promotionspreis IT-Sicherheit 2022 for alumna
Dr. Kristina Hostáková recognized with first place for dissertation

As part of the conference “GI Sicherheit 2022”, the CAST/GI Promotionspreis IT-Sicherheit 2022 was awarded at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Dr. Kristina Hostáková, an alumna of our department, took first place.
On April 6, 2022, the CAST/GI Promotionspreis IT-Sicherheit was awarded in Karlsruhe. With the first prize, the jury recognized the dissertation by Dr. Kristina Hostáková as an outstanding contribution to improving the scalability of cryptocurrencies based on so-called payment channels. The thesis from 2020 was supervised by Prof. Sebastian Faust. Since December 2020, Dr. Hostáková is a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich. “Foundations of Generalized State Channel Networks”
The other three finalists for the award included Prof. Dr. Alena Naiakshina (Ruhr Uni-Bochum), and TU doctoral graduates Dr. Cristian-Alexandru Staicu (CISPA – Helmholtz Center for Information Security) and Dr. Christian Weinert (Royal Holloway, University of London). Dr. Staicu completed his thesis on in 2020. The work was supervised by Prof. Dr. Guido Salvaneschi. Dr. Christian Weinert was nominated for his 2021 dissertation “Enhancing the Security and Privacy of Full-Stack JavaScript Web Applications” Weinert was supervised by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Schneider. “Practical Private Set Intersection Protocols for Privacy-Preserving Applications.”

This CAST/GI Promotionspreis IT-Sicherheit (doctoral award IT security), jointly offered by and the Security Division of the CAST e.V., recognizes outstanding dissertations in the field of IT security.
