TU Darmstadt is establishing a joint laboratory with Aleph Alpha Research, the research arm of the Heidelberg-based AI company Aleph Alpha. The aim of ‘Lab 1141’ is to further develop safe and transparent generative artificial intelligence (AI). The collaboration is intended to close gaps between academic research and industrial development.

Lab 1141 will also create new doctoral positions at TU Darmstadt, which will be funded by fellowships from Aleph Alpha Research. Joint symposia and internships are also planned. The name of the lab stands for the position of the letters AA (for Aleph Alpha) and DA (for Darmstadt) in the alphabet.

Professor Kristian Kersting, Head of the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning group at TU Darmstadt's Department of Computer Science, explains: ‘Our partnership with Aleph Alpha Research offers great opportunities for our researchers and doctoral students. Lab 1141 not only enhances our research capabilities but also ensures that our work leads to practical applications and is therefore an important initiative to bridge the gap between academia and industry.’
