Neu im Studiendekanat: Dr. Svana Esche

2025/04/04

What will be your tasks in the Office of Student Affairs?

A large part of my time will be devoted to didactics, i.e. the teaching and learning processes of computer science. This includes the practical part in the school itself for student teachers at grammar schools and vocational schools. At the same time, I am dedicated to the further development of teaching through didactic research. I am also responsible for coordinating and (re)designing the student programmes in the department. I also supervise the department's undergraduate courses. I am currently working with Prof. Dr. Karsten Weihe on the module 'Functional and Object-Oriented Programming Concepts'. I am also the Dean's contact person for equal opportunities issues.

What experience do you have from previous jobs?

I studied to become a secondary school teacher for computer science and mathematics. During my PhD at the TU Darmstadt I worked intensively on how beginners learn programming and how the language can support them. So I have been working for several years in the field of computer science, where specialist didactics, basic teaching and research complement each other. I also have a lot of experience in further education in the field of university didactics.

What do you find most appealing about the new tasks?

I'm really looking forward to getting students excited about computing in our department with exciting programmes! The department has a lot of interesting things to offer students here, which can be passed on to them. I also find it enriching to pass on didactic knowledge to student teachers as future multipliers for computer science.
