Research Project B.1: Trust and Trust Assessment in Social Networks

Whereas Online Social Networks (OSN) may be considered a key application for mobile users to build digitally mediated sociality, trust in OSN is unsettled in several respects which is in turn due to the numerous ways in which they create novel types of privacy problems. Sub-project B.1 regards OSNs from a sociological perspective as being part of a larger socio-technical system. By analyzing this system and crosschecking it with the social scientific body of knowledge concerning sociotechnical mechanisms of trust and privacy in other domains, B.1 aims at furthering sociological insights as well as interdisciplinary dialogue on creating a digital trust infrastructure.
