Research Project D.2: AlterEgo as Source of Trust

Privacy and trust are usually conflicting goals in secure communication, one trying to protect personal data whereas the other one aims to gather sufficient information to establish trust. Credential systems provide a trade-off for such scenarios, but current solutions often rely on the trustworthisness of the certification authority and the devices, lack the possibility to delegate credetials, and require a clear understanding of users about consequences. The goal of this research is to provide a usable, delegatable, context-aware and failure-tolerant solution based on the protocols of the German identity card.
